The Illinois Swing continues with the John Deere at the TPC at Deere Run,
where big names are a bit thin on the ground. The highest ranked players in
the field are world No.10 David Toms (15/2) and No.16 Stewart Cink (13/1*)
- plus teenage sensation Michelle Wie, who is sure to get plenty of
attention (7/2 to make the cut this week). However, with the Open only 8
days away, they may not be giving this event 100%, preferring to experiment
with their games ahead of next week. So, the player to bet on this week is
last week’s ‘failure’ Mark Hensby (20/1), who should be given another
chance to show that his US Open tie for third was no fluke. It was only an
opening 75 at last week’s Western Open that robbed him of another top-10
finish (still finished 16th), and he looks a great bet at 20/1 to

BIFFLE TO DELIVER THE GOODS AGAIN

The NASCAR circuit heads to Illinois on Sunday, as teams battle in the USG
SheetRock 400 from Chicagoland Speedway. And coming into the race as
favorite is Greg Biffle (11/2), followed by Tony Stewart (13/2) and Jimmie
Johnson (7/1). Biffle has a lot going for him this week. He’s won a
series-high five races in 17 starts on differing types of tracks this
season, including California and Michigan, both of which are similar to the
layout at Chicago. Johnson finished sixth at Daytona last week to become
the only driver to score 12 top-10 finishes in the first 17 races of 2005,
and is one of only four drivers to score three top-10 finishes at
Chicagoland (his 3.0 average finish is the best of all the top drivers).
Daytona winner, Tony Stewart, has advanced from 10th to third in the
rankings in his last three races, and logged a victory here last year to go
with a second in 2003 and a third in 2002. All three are major candidates
to win this week but, due to his achievements this season, Biffle is the
pick to deliver the goods once again on a cookie cutter track. Live

TOUGH START FOR THE PATRIOTS

Three Super Bowl championships in four years, 32 victories from their last
34 games, and a 25-8-1 (75%) mark against the spread, yet the New England
Patriots are as big as 6/1 to win the Super Bowl. That’s a bigger price
than the Eagles (11/2) and on the same mark as the Colts. To understand
this we need to look at the schedule. The Patriots open at home where they
are minus 7.5 against the Raiders and, as the Patriots are 15-4 (79%)
against the spread at home, this line could well move to around the 9 mark.
After that they travel to Carolina in Week 2, before staying on the road in
Week 3 to meet the revenge-minded Steelers. After a home game in Week 4
against the Chargers, they’re on the road again against the Falcons and
Broncos in Weeks 5 and 6. That’s four road games in five weeks, and it’s
not until Week 11, when they host the Saints, that they face an easy game.
On the positive side the Patriots have Bill Belichick, Tom Brady, Corey
Dillon and a healthy Deion Branch, but that may not be enough to overcome
their schedule.

ROUGH RIDE FOR SASKATCHEWAN

The Saskatchewan Roughriders (2-0) are paying the price for their
hard-fought 23-21 CFL conquest of the host Hamilton Tiger-Cats last
Saturday. The result of that tough physical game is a catalogue of injuries
which could plague them as they go into this Saturday’s clash with Toronto

offence with wide receiver Matt Dominguez set to miss the game due to an
injured knee. With Dominguez sidelined for at least one game, the
Roughriders are expected to activate Travis Moore, who was the team's
